Char & Al Love visiting Hopeland Gardens, Aiken, SC

Char and Al discovered Woodside through an internet search of golf communities in the Southeast, then visited Woodside’s booth at the Ft. Lauderdale Live South Expo in 2007.  Their favorite activities are golf and walking, so they were looking for a community that would offer these pursuits.  Because most of their neighbors in Naples closed their homes and left the area each spring, the Loves were also looking for a year-round community with an active social atmosphere where making new, long-lasting friendships would be easy.

The Loves’ search for just the right home included all regions of the country – California and other western locales, the northeast, the mid-Atlantic around the Washington, DC area and the southeast.  Once they decided upon the Southeast, Char and Al embarked on an exhaustive search of communities in northern Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.  This search brought them to Woodside, and they kept coming back.  Woodside met all of their criteria – an active, year around community with incredible golf and miles of walking and nature paths; a quaint yet bustling small city filled with parks, museums, concerts, theatre and more; and a perfect locale within easy access to Charleston, Savannah, the mountains and the beach.

Char and Al knew where their new home would be; now, they only needed to sell their home in Naples.  Al obtained his real estate license to ensure their home was sold as quickly as possible.  Although the Loves were still in Naples during this time, they visited Woodside often.  Each visit confirmed to them that they had made the right decision.

Char and Al finally did sell their home in Naples, but at a lower price than they had planned in 2008.  They had already researched cost of living comparisons and knew that the reduced sales price on their home in Naples would be more than made up with the savings they would experience in Woodside and Aiken.  Costs to build and operate a new home in the Aiken area are 25-40% lower than northeast, coastal and mountain regions.  Annual real estate taxes and homeowner’s insurance rates in the Aiken area will save the Loves at least $11,000 per year, compared to those costs in Naples.  In addition, club and golf dues are significantly less at The Reserve Club compared to their club in Naples.  Overall, the Loves estimate they are saving more than $25,000 per year by relocating to Woodside and enjoying a better lifestyle.

Check back regularly to follow the Loves’ progress as they discover the quality of life, value, friendships and build their new home on their quest to make Woodside their new home and Aiken their new hometown!
