About Aiken
From
its beginning as one of the first destinations of the
eastern railways in the 1800’s, Aiken soon became the
darling of the Vanderbilts, Whitneys and industrial America’s
burgeoning wealthy. As their elite winter retreat, Aiken was
soon populated by stately mansions, awe-inspiring churches,
prep schools and a thriving social and equestrian scene. Frequented
by the likes of Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt,
Aiken has been the backdrop for many a colorful story.
Today, Aiken’s rich history and sense of community pair
with a new, cosmopolitan flair. Sidewalk cafes, fabulous shopping,
music, art and theatre are all part of its allure. Aiken has
a thriving equestrian culture and is an important part of the
international polo scene.
Aiken is a town that remains in your heart when you have to
leave, and a place you’ll return to as often as you can.
